Fathers Among Men is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support fathers in our community who might not have the benefit of a strong family support system as well as mentoring to young men who lack a strong male role model in their lives for guidance. They provide after-school programs as well as educational programming during school breaks and in the summer months.
U Create Macon is a local non-profit, based in the Historic Pleasant Hill Neighborhood in Macon. They offer programming for children and youth in our community. This year they served 300 kids through their Saturday Morning Breakfast Club, bike teams, bike giveaways, a youth film Festival, free little libraries and more. Approximately 100 of these kids receive services from multiple programs sponsored by U Create Macon. Their bike team is the first and only youth chapter of the Major Taylor Association, a national group of bike clubs honoring their namesake, Walter “Major” Taylor (1878-1932), who was the world’s first Black sports superstar. He was the World Cycling Champion inn 1899 and American Sprint Champion in 1900, and set numerous cycling records despite living during the Jim Crow era of strict racial segregation. Attorney Jeff Powers was honored to be included in the U Create Macon’s Community Bike Ride this February as seen in this video from the event:
