Powers Law Group is proud to be the primary fiscal sponsor of Book ‘Em, a local nonprofit working to put brand-new books into the hands of children and youth throughout our community.
Through its partnership with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Book ‘Em helps make reading more accessible, more exciting, and more personal for local students. In May, that mission came to life at Rosa Taylor Elementary School during a schoolwide book giveaway designed to help students head into summer with books of their own.
Every one of Rosa Taylor Elementary’s 405 students had the opportunity to choose four brand-new books to keep. That means more than 1,600 books went home with students, giving them stories, adventures, and learning opportunities they can return to again and again.
The timing of the giveaway was especially important. During the summer months, many students experience what is often called the “summer slide,” a loss of academic progress that can happen when children are away from the classroom for an extended break. One of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to help prevent that slide is by making sure children have access to high-quality books they are excited to read.
For many students, choosing their own books makes reading feel less like an assignment and more like a gift. It gives them ownership. It gives them choice. Most importantly, it gives them the chance to build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong connection to reading.
At Powers Law Group, we believe giving back is part of what it means to serve. This community has given so much to us, and we are honored to support organizations like Book ‘Em that are making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families across Middle Georgia.
We are grateful to Book ‘Em, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Rosa Taylor Elementary School, and everyone who helped make this giveaway possible. Seeing students light up as they picked out their books was a powerful reminder that small investments can have a lasting impact.
